On November 18, 2011, the ICNK delegate to the UN met with officials of Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the office of the Secretary General to discuss the UNs role in solving the matter of Shin Suk Ja and her daughters imprisonment.

Dr. Oh Kil Nam, President of Free NK Gulag Kim Tae Jin, and President of Open North Korea, and the Secretariat of the ICNK were among the delegate, and they were given the following answers from the Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights, Ivan Simonovic.  He stated, when asked what actions the UN will take, that The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights receives complaints of human rights violations and takes action directly or channels them to the appropriate human rights mechanisms, including Special Rapporteurs and treaty bodies. After the petition is studied and all the necessary information obtained, the necessary action will be taken.

When asked how long it would take the UN to carry out these actions, he said It depends on the specific circumstances of the case. I can assure you that as with all complaints of this nature, we are treating this case with the urgency it deserves.
