In light of recent tensions on the Korean peninsula, Amnesty International have released a Q&A on human rights in North Korea to remind people of how serious the situation is.

The Q&A offers a summary of the current human rights situation. It observes that "Millions of people in North Korea suffer extreme forms of repression and human rights violations that violate nearly the entire spectrum of their human rights."

The report also informs people of how people escape North Korea and the harsh punishment meted out to those who leave the country without permission. It states that "Inmates face torture and ill-treatment, and denial of food as punishment."

The Q&A also reports that the human rights issues have not improved under the new leadership of Kim Jong Eun. As a result of the leadership, the human rights violations continue to be a problem for the international community.
