On May 23rd, 2012, The Committee for the Release of North Korea Human Rights Activist Kim Young Hwan increased its efforts to secure the release of Kim and the three other men being detained by the Chinese Ministry of State Security in Liaoning Province. At a press conference in Seoul the group called on the people of South Korea to join their efforts in securing the release of the four men. The group also revealed their plan of action to take the issue to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, and the Special Rapporteur on Torture.
The committee has called for the immediate release of the four men. The group has also demanded the men to be granted consular and legal consultation. They also called for an an investigation into North Korea's involvement in the arrest of the four men, as well as increased involvement in the case from the South Korean government and international organizations.
