Its widely known that for the last 20 years that North Korean workers have been sent to Russia because of North Koreas unemployment and impoverished circumstances. According to Russias primMedia every year about 2,000 North Korean workers are sent to Russia, of which 25% end up in the Far East, Maritime Province, area.

While working in these working conditions 70% of their monthly salary ($40-100) is taken by North Korean authorities, allowing workers just enough to barely cover their basic clothing, food and housing needs. RFA revealed that many North Korean workers get into the smuggling business to cope with their impoverished conditions.
