Imminent Reopening of Sino-NK Road Route Set to Revitalize Trade
The reopening of road traffic between Sinuiju and Dandong, the largest route for human traffic between North Korea and China, appears imminent, according to Daily NK. North Korean authorities have recently ordered the normalization of operations at all departments of Sinuiju Customs House, which conducts quarantine inspections for trade between the two cities.
Although road-based trade has not yet fully resumed, the order suggests a complete restart is forthcoming. In April, China Customs issued border-crossing passes to cargo truck drivers experienced in trading with North Korea.
Meanwhile, North Korean trade officials have been attending lectures on trade law, bylaws, and punishments for non-compliance, as the country has updated its trade law to strengthen centralized control since closing its border due to COVID-19.
