Yonhap News has reported the news that the North Korean authorities built a breast cancer center at the end of last year.
Built inside the Pyongyang Maternity Clinic, this cancer center has great CT equipment imported from Europe and the best doctors available. According to a citizen in Pyongyang, who has visited this center, this center is as luxurious as a hotel.
However, there has been a lot of negative reaction to the center because it is aimed at North Koreas upper class. Also, the supply of medicine there does not function well. Moreover, the medicine sold in black markets has much higher prices.
Park Sang Min, a medical professor of Seoul National University, said that the North Korean authorities' failure to maintain medical services without a sufficient budget is connected to the failure of the function of the market. He is also worried that economically poorer people in North Korea would not be able to use this medical service fully.
