According to the Daily NK, North Korea's rice prices and exchange rates, which have been continuously increasing since last year, have dropped.
The Daily NK's regularly updated graphs, North Korean Market Trends,' shows that in Pyongyang and in other regions, rice prices are around 5,600 won per 1kg. Moreover, 1 dollar is exchanging for around 8,000 won.
A Daily NK source in North Korea reported that merchants are bringing large amounts of rice in to the country through trade with the Chinese. They speculated that this might have influenced the drop in prices. However, there are some differences in rice prices in different regions.
Since the North Korean authorities warned of their intention to undertake a nuclear test, it is unclear whether the drop in rice prices and exchange rates will continue or not.
