Robert King, U.S. special envoy for
North Korean Human Rights Issues, said on Monday that he intended to
press the Chinese authorities on forced repatriation of North Koreans
at a meeting with the Chinese envoy on Korean affairs.
According to Associated Press, the
meeting between the two sets of officials would primarily focus on
the nuclear tensions on the Korean peninsula. However, Ambassador
King said that human rights are also firmly on the agenda for
discussion.
King said that, "We have to
continue to press the North Koreans and call attention to what they
are doing." He also described the gulags as similar to those
seen in 1930's Soviet Russia.
