Recent floods in North Korea have increased the level of turmoil for its citizens. In addition to lost possessions, several people have gone missing, including school children at home on summer vacation. Entire houses in the Hyesan region have been completely submerged and sources indicate that the local population is severely dissatisfied with government restoration efforts. Without proper rescue equipment, the search for survivors feels all but futile to those in the most heavily damaged areas. Victims have taken refuge in temporary constructions alongside their collapsed homes as people wonder why it has to happen every year like this.
