The North Korean authorities are trying to overcome economic hardship by earning foreign currency through new tourism sites.

Radio Free Asia reported that the North Korean authorities opened inaccessible areas for tourism. Foreign access to these areas has traditionally been blocked.

Koryo Travel Agency, a North Korea travel agency in China, reported that the North Korean authorities opened the Pyongsung region for tourism. Baeksong Revolution Historical Site and Ahnguk Temple, also located in Pyongsung, will be open to foreign tourists as well. Tourists can also visit the Pyongsung Factory where they can watch the shoe-making process and taste snacks that are produced there.
