UN revealed that the number of North Korean people having diarrhea has increased by 30 times in the flooded areas and that waterborne diseases are spreading. Especially, 680,000 out of 800,000 flood victims have no access to essential drugs, so emergency aid is urgently needed.

UN inspection team directly inspected hospitals and public health centers in North Pyongan Province in North Korea on the 6th. As a result, it has been revealed that essential drugs and medical equipments are insufficient. Therefore, the number of people with diarrhea in flooded regions has increased by 30 times compared to last April. UN prospected that people who suffer from waterborne diseases will increase even more. Especially, children under 5 years old in these regions are suffering from malnutrition because of diarrhea.

It seems the rain will last until the mid September in North Korea, yet medicines, drinking water, food, and other essential items are very scarce in flooded areas.
