In the midst of a great economic hardship, the North Korean authorities have put great emphasis in decorating the nighttime scenery in Pyongyang.

 

According to Yonhap News, the North Korean authorities erected neon signs on houses and buildings in Pyongyang to show off a civilized, socialist country. The authorities also emphasized that by beautifully decorating the city streets, the North Korean authorities are securing the people’s livelihoods and environment. Kim Jong Eun has put effort into beautifying the city without solving its economic problems. Whether or not this beautification is for the people is yet to be determined.
