The North Korean authorities have ordered prisoners of prison and labor camps to earn money for themselves.

 

Radio Free Asia’s source stated that the North Korean authorities ordered prisoners to earn their living and allocate a fixed amount of money to the judicial authorities. The North Korean authorities believe that they cannot spend money on criminals; however, prisoners can hardly earn enough money for their families to afford the things they need, the source said. Because of this order, there are concerns that the North Korean judiciary, which is already corrupt, will become even more corrupt.
