According to a Chosun Media report, the North Korean regime continues to purge associates of Jang Song-taek, the uncle of Kim Jong-un who was executed in early December. Ahn Chan-il of the World Institute for North Korea Studies reports that Kim Jong-un is quietly sending Jangs cronies to the provinces and conducting executions while focus in Pyongyang has shifted to marking the second anniversary of Kim Jong-il's death. The purges target a broad range of people associated with Jang -- ranging from anyone who had a picture taken with him to officials who were handed promotions at his request. Jangs hometown and power base in Hamgyong province has undergone a particularly thorough purge with several administrative chiefs summoned to Pyongyang and executed in early December. The purge is expected to finish by April when the Supreme Peoples Assembly will convene and replace Jangs associates in the party.
