U.N. Ambassadors from the United States, France and Australia sent a joint letter to the president of the United Nations Security Council which called on the U.N to formally discuss a report by the U.N. Commission of Inquiry on human rights violations in the North, according to Voice of America (VOA).
The COI published a report in March that urged the Security Council to refer the situation in North Korea to the ICC or to establish an ad hoc tribunal by the United Nations. As a result, the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution recommending the UN Security Council to refer the situation in the DPRK to the appropriate international criminal justice mechanism.
