Mongolia to offer food assistance to North Korea

Text of report in English by official Chinese news agency Xinhua (New China News Agency)

Ulan Bator, 9 November: Mongolia would provide food assistance to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the country's authorities said here Wednesday [9 November].

The government said it planned to send some 35 tons of goat meat to the DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] after it asked for food aid from the United Nations and other countries earlier this year.

Last year, Mongolia also sent 30 tons of meat to the East Asian country.

The two countries, with a long history of friendship, established diplomatic ties in 1948. During the Korean War, which started in 1950, Mongolia offered horses and food to the DPRK and provided a home for its orphans.
