NSA Encouraging Re-defection

The National Security Agency have ramped up efforts to encourage re-defection from the South, according to a report on the Daily NK website.

People in Hoiryeong recently sat through public lectures in which NSA officials encouraged those present to persuade family members living in the South to re-defect. Potential re-defectors, those at the lecture were told, would receive the right to live in Pyongyang and be awarded modern housing.

A Daily NK source suggested that the reason for these efforts is to clamp down on the view that life is better in the South and to encourage idolization of Kim Jong Eun.

The lectures have caused suspicion among participants, the source said. In particular, the idea that those who had defected would be treated well despite being considered traitors resulted in the idea that the policy was counter-intuitive.
