The Daily NK has reported that power outages in northern regions are impacting on train travel in the area.

A source from Yangkang Province said that the two trains that travel from Pyongyang to Hyesan have been stopping at Kilju due to a lack of power to allow the trains to pass the Baekam Ridge.

The source continued by saying that as well as the power problems, the route north of Kilju is prone to accidents. The problems on the route are causing people to leave the train at Kilju and travel north in vans or buses.

The source also noted that similar problems are being felt on the Musan to Chongjin route.
